There will be “Blood on the Dancefloor” at Ultimate Cage Wars 16, held June 19 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, and UCW president Tony Condello couldn’t be happier.

Blood, after all, is very good for business. It’s also going to help “submit” breast cancer. Here’s the deal:

Local band Pushing Daisies and Condello’s UCW have tapped out a deal that has the pair teaming up to take breast cancer to the mat. To kick off their partnership, Pushing Daisies will be showcasing songs from their latest album, Your Devils and Your Angels, during intermission for the June 19 card.

They are “super excited about the marriage of our music with mixed martial arts,” says Pushing Daisies spokesman Curtis Paull.

Fans will hear the lead single Ride, plus Blood on the Dancefloor, which has been played during the Stanley Cup playoffs during Hockey Night in Canada.

The Daisies album will also be on sale at the event, with partial proceeds going to CancerCare Manitoba for breast cancer research.

“We didn’t have to think twice about donating part of the proceeds,” says Paull. “Breast cancer has pretty much touched everyone in the band.

“Pushing Daisies music will be used on all UCW DVDs,” added Condello. “We’re very happy to be associated with such a fine group of people.”

The band will also be featured in an upcoming movie on the life of Condello, scheduled to begin filming next year in Toronto and Winnipeg. Somehow, Doc (Bob) Holliday and I have to be in that, portraying characters that suit our “station” — priests perhaps, sinless variety.

Let’s not forget there will also be fights on June 19 — nine to be exact, the headliner being Bret (The Angry Hick) Bergmark going up against Kalib Starnes.

And blood, of course: lots of blood. Amen, bro, let it flow.

THE PUSHING DAISIES

Your Devils and Your Angels

Blues-Rock

Sun Rating: 3 1/2 out of 5

“I wasn’t born in Mississippi,” sings Daisies frontman Roland Cote. You’d never guess from their third album. Deftly balancing gritty blues licks and searing slide solos with punchy modern-rock hooks and sonics — and mixing in funk, country and pop for good measure — the veteran quintet craft hard-grooving fare that picks up where Big Sugar and Wide Mouth Mason left off.

Play On!

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick bit of news. This Saturday, May 23, Winnipeg will play host to CBC Hockey Night in Canada’s “Play On” 4 on 4 street hockey tournament on Memorial Blvd. Over 200 teams have entered to play in this event. To kick off the event at 12 noon, I will be joining Nigel Dawes of the Phoenix Coyotes, Mick E Moose, some local TV and radio personalities on the charity “Celebrity” game. If you cannot make the game, the highlights will be on HNIC in the evening during the Pens / Canes game. All monies raised at this event go to The United Way.

Thanks,

Curtis

Welcome

Just a quick note to let everyone in on some cool news…

My band, The Pushing Daisies, has just finished filming our video for “Ride”, a song off our new cd. The video will be done with us in cartoon as well as claymation and should be ready for July 1st (crossing fingers), we are working once again with the CBC, this time instead of the Grey Cup, we are involved in Hockey Night In Canada, they are going to be using a couple of our songs off the new cd. The song they will be using the most is “Blood on the Dance Floor”, the CBC thinks it is quite fitting for hockey fights! Our cd is set to release this Saturday May 2nd (yes, I know some of you have copies, those were advance copies that were not available to the public, just friends). We are working with a retail chain on a cross Canada campaign for back to school right now….

If you are watching HNIC this weekend, you may pick up on one of our songs….enjoy!!

If you are sitting around this Friday night with nothing to do, you can tune into Hot 103 where I will be sitting in from 7 until 10pm Central time to plug our new music and have some fun. If you don’t live in the Winnipeg area, you can check it out on line at www.hot103live.com (7-10pm central)

Thanks,

Curtis
